My first access to the Interwebs was via InfiNet in the early 90s. I worked for Landmark Communications at the time and had a brand spankin new 14.4k modem. I remember all my friends and family were on America Online (AOL). I was on Prodigy. That was back when we loved gifs and hated jpegs. Gifs would fade into view as they were downloaded, jpegs would scan from top to bottom. A 100k image was torture back then - you just went to go get a cup of coffee or went to sleep while things downloaded.Sporadic internet connectivity
Ok, the internet works most of the time but, seemingly at random, it will just drop out. I'll spend an afternoon browsing, for instance, eBay, with no problems whatsoever only to have the connection fail as I'm trying to bid in the last 30 seconds. Nothing will connect. Google is unreachable. You have to refresh the page several times before anything comes back. I've put together a batch file that pings Google repeatedly so I can watch for the link to come up again. I have a PCI US Robotics modem and need to install it in to one of my servers. The slots say PCI-X on the server. Now, I understand that PCI-X runs at 66Mhx. PCI runs at 33Mhz. Nothing else is plugged in to the PCI slots on the server. If I install this modem, will it work and just bring the speed of the PCI bus down to 33Mhz?
